CHOP CHOP Jr. Mashed Banana on Whole-Wheat Toast • RECIPES JUST RIGHT FOR THE LITTLEST COOKS

Migas • Like many cultures, Mexico has a tradition of using eggs to turn stale bread into something delicious (think: French toast, strata, or bread pudding). Migas is basically eggs scrambled with stale or toasted corn tortillas, and it makes a tasty and nourishing breakfast. Kids Advisory Board tester Liana loved this recipe (so did her mom), and described it as a “scrambled tortilla bowl.”

SPICE IT UP! • We had so much fun developing this special section with our Kids Advisory Board! We sent each member a couple of spices and they tasted, tested, researched, and created—sending us their thoughts and notes and even a few of the recipes we’re including here. Spicy Tofu Lettuce Wraps • Kids Advisory Board member Siddharth developed this recipe, and we all love it. You’ll see a range of amounts for the spices here; we think of it as a choose-your-own-adventure recipe—just use the amount that suits you best. No lettuce? No problem. The spicy tofu is also great served over rice.

Amazing Kebabs • Originating in the Middle East and Asia, kebabs are popular meat dishes all over the world. They are a perfect base for all flavors, such as the tang of onions and the brightness of herbs. While typically threaded onto a skewer, kebabs can also be made into torpedo-shaped meatballs. Kids Advisory Board member Aleeza developed the recipe for these kebabs, which go perfectly with rice, pitas, and grilled vegetables.

Why does cooked meat turn brown?

Zippy Avocado Toast • Kids Advisory Board member Jai developed this easy, flavor-packed recipe when he was testing spices for us. It’s as great for breakfast or brunch as it is for lunch or a snack. Just make sure to use a nice, ripe avocado.

Cauliflower Curry • This is a fresh and saucy dish that tastes great when you make it and even better the next day, when the cauliflower has had time to soak up all the spices. Serve it with rice.

Spiced Applesauce • It’s easy to make your own applesauce and, if you add spices to it, it tastes a lot like apple pie. Do you like to peel your apples before cooking them? Sometimes we do and sometimes we don’t. If you don’t peel them, just cut the chunks nice and small so there aren’t big pieces of peel in your applesauce.

Cool Recipes for FROZEN FOODS Skillet Elote • Elote is a kind of seasoned corn on the cob that you can buy from street vendors in Mexico. Here we’re using frozen corn kernels because it’s wintertime—and because frozen corn is so easy! And it’s still really, really tasty.
